POMEROY — Getting kids interested in coin collecting is the goal of Bob Graham of Pomeroy, who for the past nine years has been going into Bend area schools to show and share his long-time hobby.

A member of the OhKan Coin Club, Graham has been doing coin programs with the fourth grade students of Karen Walker at the Meigs Intermediate School all nine years. He is usually assisted by another coin collector, John Bentley of Syracuse.

The history of coins and coin collecting, the different designs, and the most and least valuable as a collectible because of date and condition are among the information he shares with the students.

To wrap up the school year, Graham decided to do a coin fair. With co-sponsors, the OhKan Coin Club and some individual members, Pullins Family Homes and Farmers Bank, he bought quantities of coins to share with the students at the fair.

Each one in the class was provided $5 in "play" money to spend. They crowded around a long table filled with coins purchased by the coin club to "spend" their money.

"I just want these kids to be exposed to something new and this fair where they use play money to buy coins gives them the concept of going to real show," said Graham.
